The Naked Truth: From Trauma to Redemption
"My name is John. I experienced molestation, rape..." These words begin one of the most potent transformation stories we've ever featured. When trauma shapes our earliest experiences, it can echo through every choice we make. For John, childhood abuse spiraled into a life of confusion, substance abuse, and a marriage that left him feeling even more lost.
The Naked Truth segment on this Soul Food episode takes you deep into the reality of the world and its aftermath. Bishop Joshua doesn't shy away from the difficult questions: Why do people suffer? How do abusive patterns develop? And most importantly—how can someone truly break free? Through John's raw testimony, we witness the moment everything changed: alone in a bathroom, disgusted with his life, he cried out with complete sincerity, "God, if you're real, where are you?" What happened next transformed him completely.
If you're carrying trauma, addiction, or simply feeling lost, this episode offers something beyond mere coping strategies—it presents a pathway to complete renewal.

Speaker 3:Naked Truth, and we are here to uncover the truth and show to you that it's possible to be real, not to be fake, Because when a person is fake or have this fake life, you have always to make things up, you have to cover up things. But in this segment of the program, I bring to you the naked truth, and today you are going to learn the story of John. John that was rebellious and he was also abused. He suffered abuse. A young boy suffered abuse. Now he is smiling. Now he has a blessed life, but he was all over the place. He had affairs with men and women. Actually, he got married to a man. He was completely lost in life. However, before I show to you the story of John, I want you to understand what the plan of God is for you. Hey, hey, God has a plan for you. I am saying to you that God has a plan for you. Are you a father or a mother? If you have children, you understand more easily what I'm going to say now, Because when you had your first child, you made all it took your best, you sacrificed for the first child that was about to come. You planned the birth, you planned the upbringing, the future right. Much more God did for us. When God created the first man, Adam, he planted a garden, a paradise. The garden that God planted was to put man there, as it says here, so the man he had formed right away. He placed that man in a paradise and when Jesus came, he said I came to give you life, and life more abundantly.
Speaker 3:All that John is, this young man, all that he went through in life was, was not God's plan. He suffered a lot. He was abused, molested and he became a humanizer yes, a humanizer. He married another man. This man was lost in life. He had men, he had women, he had drugs, but that was not the plan of his mother, that was not the plan of his father. No mother conceives or gives birth to a child and she has this plan my son is going to be a monster, my daughter is going to be a monster. No, they give birth and they dream, with the child having the best. John was plagued by the evil spirit. The evil spirit came in the picture and completely destroyed his life.
Speaker 3:You are going to understand his stories in a few, but now let me tell you something. That is not God's plan that you suffer. If you are in suffering. You are in pain. God does not want you to suffer anymore. I want to show to you what is abuse, why people are abused and abuses as well. If you feel that somebody is abusing you mentally, emotionally, physically you are going to call me right now. This is the naked truth. Call me right now 1-888-332-4141. You can call this number. They have been under a spiritual attack.
Speaker 4:It was all my fault. I wouldn't be in this position if I had just stayed quiet, If I didn't talk back. Maybe he would have never hit me, Maybe it wouldn't have gotten this bad. Now I'm always looking over my shoulder, afraid that one day he will come back for me.
Speaker 5:I am haunted by the past. I love my wife I really do but she talks down to me Every time we argue. It's as if everything's my fault. I've told her how I felt, but nothing has changed. I thought I married the right person, but now I'm not so sure. If I tell my family what is going on, it might make me look weak.
Speaker 4:I've been keeping a secret from my family for years. When I was younger, my uncle he did things to me. He told me never to tell anyone and I haven't. But this secret is starting to eat me up. I feel gross, as if I did something wrong.
Speaker 3:This is what you are facing out there. You have been abused by a man, by a woman. Even adults abused children. That was the case of John, but John overcame it. I want you to pay close attention to his story Because if you relate to his story, you need to call us and we are going to assist you. 1-888-332-4141. If you want to send a text message, maybe you feel more comfortable sending a text, go ahead, send the text. Always have the device with me. You can send a text. 1-888-312-4141. That is what John's Naked.
Speaker 6:Truth. My name is John, I'm 23 years old and I do maintenance currently. When I was young, I experienced things like molestation, rape. I experienced other things. Like my family was really wasn't really united, like they would speak bad about each other and I grew up like a like around an environment where there was a lot of arguments. One time I saw my mom get beat by her boyfriend. When I was growing up I just saw and heard a lot of things that kind of made me, kind of made me like shy towards a lot of things because seeing that my family was pretty, you know, like pretty bad themselves, like I thought that I couldn't really be myself around everyone else because, like, being myself wasn't okay in my household because everyone was so judgmental there.
Speaker 6:It was after high school where I got involved with drugs. I started drinking and it wasn't too bad until I ended up getting married to a man. When that happened, I kind of lost who I was, because I always really wanted to be around girls and, you know, like stay with a lot of girls. I regretted it every day as I was married with him, because I would go through a lot, as I would live with him like it would be bad, like it would be like mentally harsh, because it was someone who I wasn't Like. I was trying to be someone, you know, different and while I was living with him I got involved into a lot of weed. I would smoke weed every day in the middle of the day, in the morning, at night I would drink a lot too. I would drink about every night. I would drink at home. I would drink when I would go out the same thing as smoking. I would smoke at home smoke when I would drink at home. I would drink when I would go out the same thing as smoking. I would smoke at home, smoke when I would go out. It got pretty crazy.
Speaker 6:After me and this person separated, I got involved with a couple of girls and I thought that after me and him separated, you know, I could finally be myself. I thought things would get better, but I just found myself, you know, just looking for happiness that I couldn't fulfill, and so I still smoked every day. It felt like I drank every day because I drank a lot. I realized, you know, that this wasn't the life that I wanted to live. I didn't actually see myself living this life because before I started smoking and drinking. I used to always say no to those things, you know. So it's like an urge that would come to me and I couldn't really fight it. I tried, but then after a couple of weeks, like I would just give in to the urge and I would ask for weed or go looking for it, and like I kind of found myself in a position where I said, you know, I'm stuck.
Speaker 6:I was in the bathroom and I was just thinking to myself like I began to cry because I didn't know who I was anymore. Like I didn't want to be who I was anymore. I actually knew about the church, I would actually go to church, but I wouldn't really consider what the pastor would tell me. It's like I really don't want to continue living this way. So that's when I cried out to God, like it was a real cry, like it was a sincere cry. I cried and I said God, um, this way that I'm living, I feel disgusted by myself and I don't want to live this same way anymore. And if you're real, if you're out there, then where are you? Like, aren't I your son? All I know is that I was sincere, like I was as sincere as I could be and I just felt like a really heavy, warm presence. Just come down and then, like in my mind, I just remembered all of the all of the sermons that I would go through and I remember like the pastor telling me something, and then that's when, like I heard a voice saying that I was here but you just never listened to me. That was a day I was like alright, no more. You know, like I vomited. At that moment I didn't have no more desire to smoke weed. I went to the church the same, the next day actually, and I told the pastor everything that happened in the process.
Speaker 6:It wasn't a easy process. It was a long process because I had to do a lot of fasting, a lot of prayer. I had a fight, my heart, I had a resist, a lot of thoughts, I had a resist, a lot of bad emotions. Like my biggest battle was to overcome my heart, because every time I got upset, like my heart would always make me think things and want to say things, and a lot of the times, like I didn't want to forgive because my heart says no. But I knew that I had to. And it was a long battle.
Speaker 6:But you know like, eventually, god molded me. God took out that, those bad emotions. I'm not impulsive at all. Now I have complete self-control over my body, over even small things like eating habits, when I'm upset, when I want to say something incorrectly, I know. You know, self-control is something that it was a a gift that God really gave me, because that was something that I didn't have. He also gave me peace. Now a lot of things they don't bother me anymore and even though problems do arise, like it's like, it's just like knowing that I'm going to get through it eventually. I have peace. Today I'm a lot more confident and I know that thanks to God's word it says I know the plans that I have for you and it feels really good knowing that the same person who delivered me, who gave me confidence, who gave me wisdom, gave me peace, is also going to handle my future and all my problems.
Speaker 3:Well, we see the before and the after. That was the naked truth of John. He overcame the traumas of his childhood. He did overcome the traumas. You carry this trauma inside of you. You do. You have this trauma inside of you that is consuming you day by day. Because of this trauma, you do not live a normal life, a good life. You are just surviving. You do not forget, you do not forgive those who abused you. Like John, he was abused, raped, and maybe you do not forget the abusers. You do not forgive them either. Once the spirit of God comes inside of you, you are going to be able to forgive. I know you always say you do not have strength. We are reading this book here, the Ministry of the Holy Spirit, and through this book I'm going to help you, teach you how to overcome inside, because if you overcome inside of yourself, you are going to be a different person. Well, today I am going to read for you, uh, this subject that says those who have the holy spirit aren't alone or lonely. They are not lonely alone. They are not lonely alone. They are not lonely, it says here.
Speaker 3:People can often feel lonely and lost in the challenge of life. Is that how you feel? They may be highly intelligent, be well-to-do and socialize in those cycles, yet go through such difficult situations Be well-to-do and socialize in those cycles no-transcript and do not know what to do. They see that not even their loved ones can help. That was the case of John, and in some cases human help is useless. In some cases, human help is useless. Well, john was like that, but when he received the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, john's life was transformed. His life did change Water into wine. Who could ever help a man that was abused as a child? A man who had many women and was married to another man on drugs he was lost. The man who had many women and was married to another man on drugs he was lost. However, once he was delivered, that is the first step.
Speaker 3:Without deliverance, you cannot receive the Spirit of God. Not at all. I cannot pour clean water in a cup that is dirty. If the cup is dirty, we cannot pour the water right. So you need deliverance. That's why, on Fridays in this ministry, we have services for deliverance In the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening Every Friday for your freedom, for your deliverance. And this is what is going to happen this Sunday Friday for deliverance and Sunday for the Holy Spirit. Once again, if you feel lost, hopeless, you need to receive the power of god inside of you right now.

Speaker 7:The Universal Church is present on all continents, In 127 countries, Represented by all the flags of the Temple of Solomon's Esplanade in Sao Paulo. In just the past five years, the Universal Church has reached 14 countries. Last year, in a special ceremony, we celebrated the inclusion of even more flags representing the new countries that have been reached. The phrase go and preach the gospel is the fuel which moves the Universal Church. In Brazil alone, the Church has over 10 million followers and more than 3 million in the remaining 127 different nations. In Africa, there are 39 nations, from Mozambique, with 1 million members, to the Republic of Central Africa. In the Americas, we are in 38 countries and 16 churches. In Asia, the African nation of Kenya is a place where food is scarce, it is without clean water and where disease spreads quickly, contaminating people and their animals. The dream of having water in abundance and close to home has turned into a reality. The Universal Church embraced this cause and built two water wells in two cities, one of which produced 150,000 liters of water daily, fulfilling the need of over 20,000 people, as well as supplying water to a small clinic which took care of the tribe's sick. This well was gifted to the tribe and it was not restricted only to the members of the tribe's sick. This well was gifted to the tribe and it was not restricted only to the members of the church, but made available for the whole community to use. The total cost of the two wells was $126,000. This memorable act gained the trust of millions and made them aware of the living God preached by the Universal Church, a God that they knew not before. The Universal Church has also translated Bibles in their native languages and distributed them so all may have access to the Word of God.
Speaker 7:In the United States, lives are also being transformed by the power of faith. Since 1986, temples now exist in 30 states. In 2019 alone, the Universal Church has 29 new churches. Yearly, approximately 15 million people wind up in the United States' correctional system. In 2019, two churches were opened inside Texas prisons and the third one is in the works. After six months of class, 100 inmates graduated the self-help program called Godlywood, where they learned to heal old wounds from the past and become more confident.
Speaker 7:Universal Church constantly gives support to people suffering from depression, with services created specifically designed to fight this disease, and that is how the Universal Church heads into another year of many projects, Ready to face new challenges, believing in the rescue of the desperate and hopeless, fighting drugs addiction, healing the sick, breaking barriers, opening new temples in so many places that are still needing to be reached.
Speaker 7:But for that the Universal Church counts on your support, for the sole purpose of reaching out to those who are helpless. You who believe in the effectiveness of this work and have become inspired to help, what you feel now is the Spirit of God touching you. Speaker 3:well, now is the moment of prayer. Let us now talk to god. I have my cup of water here. If you have yours or a bottle of water, let us together pray to him it's now the moment of prayer.
Speaker 8:Let us talk to god here I am in this moment of prayer, so despised, without love, need to talk with my Lord, oh my Lord.
Speaker 3:Oh, my Lord and my Father, there are many Jones out there, people that are in suffering, people that are in suffering, people that are in pain. They have been molested, abused. They do not know, lord, what to do anymore Because of so many things that happens all around. Spirit of the Lord, but I pray to you in this very moment and I ask you for the change, for the transformation of this person, because the truth has been hidden, covered from this person. You said you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free, and this is what must happen to this person out there. This person must know the truth shall set you free, and this is what must happen to this person out there. This person must know the truth.
Speaker 3:This person's life has to change Because your plan was for us to live in the paradise. You want the human kind, the human being, to live in the paradise, but some evil has happened to this person and now this person is in hell, is living in hell. Hell was not created for man. Lord, take this person out of the hell. This person has this hell, life is living in hell. But I pray to you, oh, my Lord, raise this person, take this person out of this miserable life. You are the hope for the hopeless ones, especially those like John, who thinks that life will never change. Life is not worth living. But, my God, I know that you can change, that you can transform the life of this person once and for all. My God, bless this water so that when we drink, we may drink thy power. In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, amen, praise God.
Speaker 2:Amen, amen. I'm no one in the crowd. I need to find a way out, god.
Speaker 3:Only you. You have found the way out. Yes, you do. You're no longer lost. Hey, rise, yes, rise. Do not be down downcast. Yes, raise your head. Look up to God. Whenever you look up to God, you see solution. When you look down, you only see problems. Do not look down, god is. Whenever you look up to God, you see solution. When you look down, you only see problems. Do not look down. God is with you, he goes ahead of you and you can make it.
Speaker 3:It was one more naked truth here in the showdown of faith. I am going to be back with the naked truth, with another story. We are going to uncover the truth. Count on me for prayers.
