Broken Beyond Repair (Final Part)
What happens when a person's life seems completely shattered? Joel and Brittany's powerful testimonies prove that no one is beyond hope or healing.
The remarkable transformation in both their lives stems from one simple statement: "Come as you are." Rather than expecting people to fix themselves before seeking help, the Universal church welcomed them in their brokenness. No judgment, no criticism about past mistakes—just patient guidance and consistent support. Today, Joel no longer needs drugs to sleep or cope with life, while Brittany has abandoned marijuana completely and learned to manage her anger through her faith.
Ready for your own transformation story? Bishop Joshua extends a bold challenge to listeners: try the same path and prove them wrong if it doesn't work. Call 312-4141 or text "challenge" to 1-888-312-4141 to begin your journey from broken to whole. What worked for Joel and Brittany could be the solution you've been searching for!

Speaker 2:Quench your spiritual hunger. Give the food that lasts forever. Here on the soul food podcast. There's something peculiar about this generation here. Everywhere we look around, we see a world fulfilled. I can feel it in the breeze. I feel you drawing near. I pour in all your spirit. Yes, revival's here. The earth is longing for the rightful king to take his throne. Oh, how we're longing for the day that you'll take us home. Take your throne, jesus. Take your throne, jesus. Take your throne. We call you Yahweh, we call you mighty God, we call you prince of peace.
Speaker 3:You are the God of the universe. We call you Yahweh, we call you mighty God. We call you the great I Am. You are the God of the Universe. Broken Beyond Repair, the untold stories of those who were once broken.
Speaker 4:But we are here today to open the book and to reveal to you their stories. We have here together with us Joel and Brittany. Both of them had drug addictions and many other problems. Actually, Bishop David, these are the people that we welcome in our church. We always say come as you are. We don't expect angels to come to church, because we were no angels when we came.
Speaker 5:You know, it's kind of funny because sometimes once in a while we come across someone and they say, no, I'm not ready to come to church, I want to fix my life first. No, you have to come the way. You are broken because God is the one who fixed your life. You can't fix your life. Why didn't?
Speaker 4:you fix. Until now, until now, you did not fix. And if you're waiting to repair your life, to fix your life to come, you're never going to come Right. You are doing it yourself. What you are not able to do, the Lord can do it in your life. Joel, tell us what was the situation in your life when you came to us.
Speaker 6:I just barely got out of prison. I was living in a motel, um, I have said I had seven children at the time. My wife was out there by herself for two years. She was doing everything herself. The church really helped her out. And then when I came out I had nothing either. I had no job, I had nothing at all. Period. She brought me to the church. Bishop David was there there. He helped us, brought us closer. He didn't tell us any fake things. What we wanted to hear, he told us exactly what we needed to know to do what we needed to do, and that's, I'm sorry. How long were you in?
Speaker 4:prison, and that's I'm sorry. How long were you in?
Speaker 6:prison, so from 2004 to 2006. Two years, yes, sir.
Speaker 4:Okay, what led you to prison?
Speaker 6:My anger, my pride. I caught a couple people stealing from me on the job site. I told them to leave and they assaulted me. So I assaulted them back and I left. The job went to another one didn't call the police and I had a prior record from a long time ago. They did not help anything at all for me to leave the scene and then assault.
Speaker 4:Right. Tell us about your problem with drugs.
Speaker 6:I always had a problem with sleeping so many things that I thought I could take care of that. I was trying to deal with myself. I could not do it, so when I smoked marijuana, it made me forget everything, but it was not actually helping my problem. It was just making me forget it and the next morning I had to wake back up and do the same thing again. It got so bad. It got so bad that I was dull. I was dull to what was going on in my family and my household. I wasn't realizing what was going on with my children. I was in a bad place. My father passed away, but you know what? Do all that stuff. I came back to the church. God brought me back to this church and I'm a better person. I don't feel like I have to do any drugs at all. I don't feel like I have to do them, to go to sleep, to give them my problems or anything. I talked to him. He's there for me every single time.
Speaker 4:So when you came back to the church, did the church will come you in the right way? Did anybody criticize you or charge you for your past?
Speaker 6:no, nothing at all. I mean Now one time did I feel like people were looking at me like, oh, this guy's been in prison, or this guy's does drugs, or this guy's done this or that. Nothing at all, nothing but help. Anything that I needed that they could do, they did for me.
Speaker 4:So you said how many kids Seven.
Speaker 6:Seven kids. Seven children, yes, sir.
Speaker 4:Okay. Do they see the transformation in your life, your kids?
Speaker 6:I think so, because I have four grandkids now and they always tell me, dad, you never were like that with us. But the thing is I didn't know.
Speaker 4:You didn't. You didn't because, Bishop, the evil spirit blinds a person, blocks the mind, the ears. A person doesn't hear, doesn't see, doesn't think straight.
Speaker 5:That's right. It's like when evil spirits like you become a hostage, right. It's like you're not in control of your life anymore. You're not in control of your thoughts, your emotions. Like you had these anger problems, you would just go out of control. You weren't in control of yourself anymore. You weren't that person because of these evil spirits.
Speaker 4:Four grandkids. And now you are the grandfather, the father that because of these spirits you could not be for your children.
Speaker 6:That's correct, sir.
Speaker 4:Right, let us go to Bishop Dave Brittany.
Speaker 5:So, brittany, in some ways you had some similar problems to Joel, because you had anger and marijuana problems, right, yes, so hold the mic close. How was your life before you found the University Church?
Speaker 2:Well, my life was pretty crazy. I was doing marijuana. It was crazy because I was all over the place. I had anger issues. I started like smoking marijuana and it used to help me. I used to think it helped me, but it really didn't help me. It used to make it worse. But I used to have grudges. I used to be petty, you know. I used to have negative thoughts. I used to want to fight people. Tell them to come to my house, them come, come to my house, I come in their house.
Speaker 2:I used to um, so you used to get into fights physical fights with people yes, sometimes because because they would do something, or, and I hold the grudge, and then I'll be like you, not, if they don't talk to me, I'm not going going to talk to them first, so and then they'll want to fight or they'll want to, you know, try to talk a mess on Facebook and stuff like that. I used to put stuff on Facebook. I used to just, you know, just be all over the place.
Speaker 5:And so, and the marijuana you were smoking every day. Yes, I mean, if you could, if you had it, would you you were smoking every day? Yes, I mean, if you could, if you had it, would you be smoking it every day? You talking about now, oh, yes, yeah, not now.
Speaker 2:Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, yes, I will. Just you know, I will smoke it, buy it like, have sex like, smoke it like have sex like smoke it like um keep buy some then even at work. I'll buy some before.
Speaker 5:Um, I'll buy some and smoke like uh on break. I have like one at work at work on a break.
Speaker 2:You'd be like smoking yeah, I used to do it here too, like well, not here, but like before I come to the church, like because I didn't take it serious when I first came. I just used to be coach to the youth. I go high, I'll be up in service high so you'd come to the church high on marijuana.
Speaker 5:Yep, so it's like no respect, no fear of God. You're treating the church just like a social club.
Speaker 2:Yeah, basically because I didn't take it like I didn't take it serious, like I wasn't really just paying attention and stuff like that. And then when they started telling me about tithes and all that, I really just started paying attention. Then the assistants, they'll help me, they'll be helping me, they'll talk to me and stuff like that. But it was hard for me to open up to people.
Speaker 4:And you know this is what we say and we mean it. Come as you are. Even though Brittany was doing drugs marijuana, she was high, she was welcome to the service.
Speaker 5:And we had assistants who were patiently taking care of her, trying to teach her, encouraging her even when she was making mistakes.
Speaker 4:Yeah, she thought they did not know, but they knew, they knew. But they just assist when people come to church. The way they are, we know the way they are, or who they are by the way, their performance, the way they attend the service. But we are very patient because we came from the same world, the same suffering, the same problems, the same situation. That was a solution for us. Now is the time for us to give back yes. Situation there was a solution for us. Now is the time for us to give back yes. But as you are going to know now, the result of Brittany in the church. Brittany, tell us, what has God done for you? How is your life now? It is different.
Speaker 2:I don't smoke anymore. I don't smoke anymore. I don't even urge to smoke my brothers and them they'll still do it, but I don't. I've been trying to invite them to the church, but it really helped me. Universal Church really did help me and when they talk to me and guide me through it, it really helps.
Speaker 5:And the anger, and the fighting and the grudges.
Speaker 2:Oh no, no, I learned how to deal with negative coming my way. I still kind of learn a little more, but I learned like. I learned how to deal with it like and I don't hang around them, certain them type of people anymore. So it really did help me and I like, and I still, and it started. It started off just coming sundays and SO IT REALLY DID HELP ME AND I STILL. It STARTED OFF JUST COMING SUNDAYS AND THEN I START COMING MONDAYS, wednesdays, fridays. I EVEN COME SATURDAYS TO EVANGELIZE SOMETIMES.
Speaker 5:SO YOU'RE IT'S LIKE. You're COMING ALL THE TIME.
Speaker 2:GETTING STRONGER. Yes, AND I START, AND I READ THE BIBLE MORE.
Speaker 5:SO IS IT BETTER NOW? So is it better now? No smoking, no grudges, no fighting. No, you say your life is much better. Yes, you have peace now. Yes, I do have peace. So it's worth giving up all that stuff.
Speaker 2:Yes, definitely, and it's worth not hanging with them. Same people.
Speaker 4:Amen. Let me challenge you right now. If you call, nothing happened. You don't need to come to this church anymore, you don't need even to watch me anymore. I make this challenge with you anymore. I'll let you come here and prove me a liar, a false prophet here, live on the air to everybody. So if you call, if you come to the church, nothing happens to you. You are going to be able to come here and say I did what you said and nothing happened. This is a lie. This is fake.
