Speaker 1:

It's time for Soul Food Podcast.

Speaker 2:

Broken Beyond Repair. The untold stories of those who were once broken.

Speaker 3:

Here in this ministry, we are not about talking, preaching, giving you good sermons. No, here in this ministry, we about god's power. You know, bishop david, because the kingdom of god is not a matter of talk, words, empty words, empty talk, but of power.

Speaker 4:

You know we can. Anyone can talk about God, about the power of God, but it's different for than actually experiencing it. God is power and we need to get to the point where we see his power working in our life, transforming us.

Speaker 3:

This is our faith. Either God is or he is not. We cannot just go around and preach and preach, but where is God? You hear from the pastors that God will open the gates, the windows of heaven, but you have not seen it in your life. We have here today Pastor Forrest. He has been a pastor for many decades and he can tell 70., 70., 70 years, 70 years. We are talking about 70 years so, and he can talk about it. Hi, pastor Forrest, how are you? I'm good, good, good to be here.

Speaker 5:

Good to be here.

Speaker 3:

Thank you for joining us. Yes.

Speaker 5:

We're glad to and glad you have this program to encourage people to put the Word of God into practice.

Speaker 3:

Pastor Forrest, we are talking about a God that is alive. We have many pastors, deacons, ushers watching us right now, but the reality is they read something, they preach about the Bible, but they have not seen this God in their lives.

Speaker 5:

I think this is a big problem among the churches and Christianity, that we have a wonderful teaching but so many times we lack the strength or the or the courage to put it into practice. Yes, when God called Joshua to take the place of Moses, the first thing he said to him was be strong and courageous. You're going to lead the people to take the land that I promised to them.

Speaker 3:

So he had to have the courage. Pastor Forrest, we are not here to criticize anybody, to point fingers, to judge anybody, but we have to be sincere and we have to be transparent. You were saying, before you found about this ministry, the Universal Church, yourself being a pastor. You were among other pastors and the church was dead.

Speaker 5:

Yes, we were. At that time we were working in part of Manhattan in New York City and we were surrounded by people who were addicted to drugs, by demon-possessed people. So there was so much weakness and there were were churches and they were meeting, but so little was actually happening that showed the power of God.

Speaker 3:

Well, Bishop David, this is what we have seen. People are suffering, they are on drugs, they are addicted. How can a depressed pastor help somebody that has depression? Even nowadays, even pastors are killing themselves due to depression.

Speaker 4:

Pastors, psychiatrists, doctors you know there are psychiatrists who are treating suicidal people, but they're suicidal Really. Pastors who are depressed, who have addictions. They're preaching, they're preaching the word of God, but they have the same problems, or even worse than people. I just wanted to ask my father when you came to the universal church, dad, you learned about evil spirits, casting out evil spirits. That wasn't something that you had known before.

Speaker 5:

No, we had studied this, of course, in the Bible, and especially reading about the ministry of Jesus and ministry of the apostolic church, but somehow part of the teaching was put into practice, but some of these powerful things and the power of the Holy Spirit was not emphasized and was not practiced.

Speaker 4:

So what's your opinion about preaching the gospel, talking about God, talking about faith, but forgetting about evil spirits? What's your attitude?

Speaker 5:

Well, obviously, when we look at the world, if we are really thinking seriously, we know that the devil is at work and we know that the earth is filled with evil spirits, if we really think about it. So what can we do about it? So, when we look at Jesus and the apostles, Jesus gave us authority and he defeated the devil himself and he taught his apostles and his followers to drive out the demons and to resist the devil. Like he said resist the devil and he will flee from you. But he said first submit yourself to God, then you can resist the devil and he'll flee from you.

Speaker 3:

So this is the reality that we cannot hide, we cannot skip it. Satan does exist and he came to kill, steal and destroy. And this is what he is doing, and we cannot hide it at all. He is real, he exists and he destroys people's life, right.

Speaker 5:

He does, but we have been given the solution. Jesus came as a Savior and he came to destroy the works of the devil. That's what the Scriptures say, and he has given us power and authority. Jesus said all authority is given to me in heaven and on earth.

Speaker 3:

Therefore, go and preach the gospel and cast out the demons and heal the sick and Pastor Forrest. When you came to the Universal Church, this is the work that you saw the church of the days of the Acts of the Apostles.

Speaker 5:

Yes, when I went to Brazil the first time to see the Universal Church, I was amazed and I thought oh, I'm living in the days of the Acts of the Apostles, this is how it began and how it's supposed to be.

Speaker 3:

You know why? Because we cannot preach one thing and do something else.

Speaker 4:

And Bishop, we can't change the gospel. We can't. We can't do something that Jesus didn't do. We have to follow what he did.

Speaker 3:

And you know there is this person right now watching us that you believe in the Bible. You are a believer. You have one, two, three, four Bibles at home, but when you look at your life, nothing that is written in the Bible is there in your life. It never came to pass. It is a time for you to say enough. RIP Buried in a box of wood cut down from a tree More than six foot tall, now six foot deep. Rip Rewind it please.

Speaker 6:

They say, on the 10th of October 2015, we lost a day. One Mummy even said I can't believe this happened to my son. And there goes this life down the drain and I feel the pain each and every day, knowing what was done. It's mad it's sad.

Speaker 1:

It's been five years since we lost him and I marvel because he was taken from us too soon. He was an iron man, never wanted to be told what to do, but he had a little fury and he used to nick from the shop. No wonder everyone called him g1, because he had a vision to never get done and he always moved low-key. We watched him grow, with his friends transforming from boys to men. He ran the estate, but it looks like we've reached the end of the road and we'll love you more than you'll ever know. I know you know, but do you remember, remember what? The time we spent together with him Of course I do In the parties when he would grab a fine wine and all his boys would take notes, because when that tune would come on and then after he would take that girl on the Addison Lee was my number seven on the alphabet and you bet he enjoyed it.

Speaker 1:

But why did he have to die, man? Why did he have to go? He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He got moved to by one guy and I can't lie, I wish it didn't happen. He asked him a couple of questions and that was the moment. We wished he never got moved by them making some exchange. His girlfriend told him promise me you'll never hang around with them. But he didn't listen. He kept her voice underground. He promised her they would have a crystal palace and we didn't bank that. His Barbie can get him to act on leaving them because they kept barking at him. If only he listened. Four months and he was still connected. Why did he have to connect for? Why did he have to pick up when they called him? He chilled with them nearly seven days, making one weak correction.

Speaker 6:

Making us weak.

Speaker 1:

They would usher him. And then you made a U-turn and then you let it burn. Then you broke up with your girl. Then you told the Lord these are my confessions.

Speaker 1:

But he battled for his life Day and night. But I'm guessing it was God's plan. But I'm upset because his girl came back and said David, do you love me? You said you'd never leave me. It was non-stop. Remember, when you were the hotline bling, you used to put in the work, work, work. And now you're standing here saying life is good, don't you miss him. It's like you're moving, like you're.

Speaker 6:

Someone else. Rip. You're not buried in a box of wood cut down from a tree More than ten feet tall. Some say buried in the sea. Rip, Yo. You've been standing there for a long time. You know you good, yes, but only a few people know. Know what About his death? How did he die? Some say he drowned, but I put an end to it, An end to war. About his death. How did he die? Some say he drowned, but I put an end to it, An end to war.

Speaker 6:

My old self, the sleepless nights, self-harm and addictions, anger. How did you do that? A simple decision on the 10th of October 2015. In fact, that day that guy spoke to me on the street Yo, what's good, I buried the enemy. My mum was proud. She said I can't believe this happened to my son. He's a new man. Letting go of my girlfriend wasn't easy. I had to put the negativity aside and abide from what I heard, because she wasn't helping me. But today I'm happy. There's a clear before and after, filled with laughter, joy, peace, something that can't be contained. But every day I have to be valiant. People want me to come back, but I won't go back. I can't go back, Even though he's down there, always trying to resurrect every day. I will be valiant. It was great they spoke to me on the street. I'm keeping my old self down there, RIP. You're not buried in a box of wood cut down from a tree. You're now less than an inch tall. Some say buried in the sea. Rip, Remember it's price.

Speaker 3:

Tatiana is here with us. How are you?

Speaker 7:

I'm doing really good.

Speaker 3:

Tatiana had this problem in her life. That did challenge your family.

Speaker 7:

What was the problem? It was so many. Which one?

Speaker 3:

The problem with your son.

Speaker 7:

Oh, with my son Matthew. Matthew, yes, when he was born. He was born with a heart condition where the right valve was completely shut and he couldn't breathe. So with three months of age he had four surgeries.

Speaker 3:

Wow, Three months. He had four surgeries. Yes, but when you were pregnant, expecting a child, you were not aware you were not expecting a sick boy. No, I was not. Okay. We have the highlights of this story. It's a real story. It was a situation that was broken beyond repair. But let us see today how did it all end?

Speaker 8:

Of course we expected a healthy baby, so we expected everything to go good, right. We didn't expect any kind of complications, no issues. There was nothing.

Speaker 7:

Through the pregnancy I didn't know anything that was happening to him, but they came on the day of birth and told that he was having a heart problem.

Speaker 8:

They started the first operation within hours of that, and five hours, six hours, was the first operation. We were in the series of four different operations and we were there for months, two, three months. It didn't look good. I mean, there was there for the first month. Everything just went. It was going downhill. We didn't, I didn't know what to expect.

Speaker 3:

So, tatiana, he was born, you gave birth and the very same day they took him for a surgery.

Speaker 7:

Yes, I pretty much stayed in the hospital by myself and probably in seven to eight hours they already transferred to another hospital and I just got to see my son the next day, which I believe in less than 24 hours, he already had the first surgery.

Speaker 3:

So 24 hours the first surgery. So she was still in pain because she gave birth. There came another pain and in many people's life this is the situation Problems back to back, disappointment, failures, losses.

Speaker 4:

And, like with her, a time that was supposed to be beautiful, wonderful, became a nightmare the same day. You know she's going to give birth, so she's expecting a wonderful experience and it became the worst, one of the worst experiences in her life. Many people go through this. They're expecting happiness and joy, but it turns they expect the good and the evil come.

Speaker 3:

They expect health and diseases come prosperity and misery come, tatiana. So did you hear the first day that he had a surgery? Did they tell you the same day that your son was having a surgery?

Speaker 7:

Actually, when I got to the hospital that he was at, he was already, like, being prepared to surgery. I was there already, but I didn't get a chance to see him. He was already in the room getting ready.

Speaker 3:

And I believe that it was very shocking for you. You gave birth, then your baby one day, just one day, have a surgery. How many surgeries did he have?

Speaker 7:

So in the first 15 days in the hospital he had two surgeries and then he went home. Two months later he had another one and after the third surgery the doctor was going to tell us if that surgery you'd solve the problem or not. And the answer was no, that you'd have to do like another surgery. And the fourth surgery it was an open heart surgery, open heart, so they had to open here.

Speaker 4:

In this three-month-old boy. They to to open up and do heart surgery once again.

Speaker 3:

What was his problem?

Speaker 7:

he was born yeah, the right valve of his heart was closed so he would not get oxygen. So the first three surgery they they put a stent to open up but the stent was not keeping open for too long and that's when, on the third surgery, they told us like it's not going to work. Then they decided to go to the open heart.

Speaker 3:

So just pictures that we see, was still in the hospital.

Speaker 7:

Yes, that picture is in the hospital.

Speaker 4:

Yes, that picture is in the hospital. But, bishop, there was a point I don't know if you remember, when she was giving her testimony. There was a point where the doctors were talking and a lot of just bad news, negativity, and there in the corridor, surrounded by doctors, you got down on your knees and began to cry out to God and basically what we're telling people to do on Sunday. She was asking God to act, that she needed an answer at that moment and all the doctors thought she was crazy.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you came to a point that you had to challenge Whether God is alive or not. You had to challenge Him, so they thought you were crazy.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, it was interesting because I remember in the hallway it was around 10 to 15 doctors just talking about my son's situation and I mean I know God, I could not accept the situation and I know he's alive. And then I just put my knees on the floor and I started crying out for God and I asked for a miracle. And people were looking at me and my husband was telling me like get up, get up. And I said for a miracle. And people were looking at me and my husband was telling me, like get up, get up. I said no, I'm not going to get up, I'm going to talk to God. He's going to make something, he's going to change the situation.

Speaker 3:

And that's exactly what God did. Did you hear what the doctors were saying about the situation of your son At that moment? They were still deciding about the open heart surgery, if they were going to do it or not. So you were in a situation that you could not wait anymore. The life you saw, the life of your baby in the hands of the doctors. They were having a conversation to decide, and then you ask God for a decision. You ask God to decide, yes, right, yes. You should remember the prayer inside of the hospital there, the words that you use. What did you ask for?

Speaker 7:

I honestly don't remember, but but I was. I'm pretty sure I was asking for a miracle, because I know he's a true God.

Speaker 3:

He's alive.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, and I knew like he could do anything that I was not capable to do it or the doctor would be able to do it, and I asked them to come and make a miracle, use the doctor's hand if it was the situation. But I wanted my son back because his name is Matthew and Matthew means gift of God and God gave him to me and he would not like nothing would happen to him without God's permission. I really trusted him.

Speaker 3:

After the challenge, after the challenge. You made that challenge there. You challenged God. Did God come down for you? What?

Speaker 7:

did God do for your son. So that prayer was on the second surgery. So then he went home and after that, when he had to come back to the hospital, I remember you going to another situation which was me and my husband in the room, and on that day you made a vow with God and you said, if you would take care of my son and bring us back to us healthy, he would raise our son in the church teaching his way. And God answered our question and that's what you're doing right now. How old is your son? He's gonna be three next month.

Speaker 3:

Three, three years old, healthy, healthy okay, you saw the power of god. Yeah, this is the the beauty of the challenge. You plant the seeds, you see the result. You see it grow and and grow and bear fruit to you. This is what she saw.

Speaker 4:

You know, a lot of traditional Christians would say you know, you can't challenge God. You can't say, god, I need a miracle right now. But this is what God wants us to do. This is what Abraham did, it's what Jacob did. It's what Gideon did, what Abraham did, it's what Jacob did. It's what Gideon did, what Hannah did. This is true faith to believe in the Bible so much that you say, god, I need a miracle now, and you're talking about Gideon.

Speaker 3:

He said where are all your miracles? Right, where are all your miracles? They're wonders of the past. I've heard about your miracles, so where are they now? So many Christians in the past forest have seen it. They do not have this faith anymore. They do not have this bold faith that brings the result. She could have said, no, this is God's will, my son will die, etc. But we see, you can bring the son. He is alive, it's a miracle.

Speaker 5:

That's right and you know, for many years a certain theology has controlled, like the church in America. They say the miracles happened through the time of the apostles, but when all the apostles died, then there are no more miracles.

Speaker 3:

This is what they say.

Speaker 5:

And that controlled the church for many years, until a few years ago, when a charismatic movement began.

Speaker 3:

So we cannot think that the times of miracle has passed. Yes, the apostles died, but Jesus is alive. Jesus died and came back to life.

Speaker 4:

And the Bible says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. Yes and forever.

Speaker 3:

Here is Matthew. How are you, matthew? How are you healed, healthy and free. He doesn't look sick. No, he doesn't look sick, he looks very healthy. So if you are suffering just like she suffered, you are having the same problem. Come to see us. Take the shot, take the challenge. Come to see us. Maybe you had one, two, three, four surgeries, like she had, or her son had, I mean, but her son is alive, he's healthy, he's healed. So do not despise this opportunity.
